On Thursday March 28, 2012, Dr. Azizah al-Hibri and Engy Abdelkader met with U.S. Deputy Attorney General James Cole together with a select group of American Muslim, Arab and South Asian advocacy group representatives. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss Guidelines recently issued by Deputy Attorney General Cole to be adhered to in trainings conducted by all components of the U.S. Department of Justice. Additional civil rights issues of critical concern to members of the American Muslim community were similarly addressed, including the continuing series of reports by the Associated Press regarding unlawful surveillance of Muslims by the New York Police Department.
