A Delegation of 5 Young Yemeni Women Leaders Visited KARAMAH

On October 5, 2011, a delegation of 5 young Yemeni women leaders visited KARAMAH as part of the Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program on “Young Leaders and the U.S Political Process.” These young Yemeni women leaders are involved in Journalism, Women’s rights, and the political process at the national, state and local level. Their visit to the U.S aims primarily at learning about the American democratic experience, about the political status of women in American politics and how Muslims and non Muslims co-exist in America.

They were also very interested in learning about what KARAMAH does to demystify and change stereotype and prejudice against Muslims. The KARAMAH staff explained that our work focuses on education and scholarship as the main tool of changing perceptions and empowerment which we do throughout the year through research, workshops, interfaith lectures, and our Law and Leadership program where we provide young Muslim women with the tools to counter prejudice and to educate those who are ignorant of Islam. The Yemeni visitors expressed their intention to apply what they will learn in America in Yemen.
