Celene Ayat Lizzio serves on the faculty at Merrimack College where she teaches courses on Islam, gender, and the history of Muslim, Christian, and Jewish relations. Her research interests include Islamic sexual ethics, family law, and various constructions of gender within Islamic traditions. Her work finds inspiration from feminist theology, methodologies, and pedagogies as well as from her religious and spiritual formation in Islam. Ms. Lizzio is a graduate of the Masters of Divinity program at Harvard Divinity School where she was a Harvard Presidential Scholar and an Islamic Society of North America Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Fellow in Non-Profit Management and Philanthropy. She completed her undergraduate degree summa cum laude in Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University and currently resides in the greater Boston area with her spouse and her daughter.
