Her current research focuses on gender and Islamic law and scriptural interpretation, as well as the application of the Shari\u2019a Law in Muslim countries and its repercussions on women\u2019s lives. She worked as program officer for North Africa with the National Endowment for Democracy from 2005 to 2008 and as executive director of the Democratic Association of Women of Morocco (ADFM), a Moroccan women\u2019s organization, from 1999 to 2001, and she was a consultant to the UN Women and the Collectif 95 Maghreb Egalit\u00e9, A North African women\u2019s rights network. Ms. El Habti holds a master\u2019s degree in Sustainable International Development from Brandeis University and a doctorate degree in Arabic literature from Mohammed V University in Rabat, Morocco. She co-edited the chapter on Islam in Sex, Marriage, &amp; Family in World Religions, Columbia University Press, 2005.
