These great individuals not only maintained their dignity, but fought for its legal recognition. At KARAMAH, we honor this legacy in our continued fight to restore God-given dignity that is commonly denied still today. I am reminded of KARAMAH’s scriptural focus on verse 17:70 of the Holy Qur’an, in which God promises karamah – defined as dignity in Arabic – to all Children of Adam. This verse is central to Islamic law and a driving force behind all of KARAMAH’s work.”

KARAMAH was founded by Dr. Azizah al-Hibri, an award-winning legal scholar, activist, and Professor Emerita from University of Richmond School of Law. KARAMAH was created to support the rights of Muslim women specifically and all people generally through educational programs, jurisprudential scholarship, and a network of Muslim jurists and leaders. KARAMAH continues to promote human rights and the rule of law through enlightened Islamic and civil legal advocacy and education, including its forthcoming civil rights town halls in cities throughout the nation.

For more information, please contact Awais Khaleel at akhaleel@karamah.org or (202)234-7302.

###

Contact:
