Opponents of the\u00a0<em>Shari&#8217;a<\/em>\u00a0law have found in the subject an ideal opportunity to attack Islamic law as patriarchal and unjust to women. Some have even argued that\u00a0<em>Shari&#8217;a<\/em>\u00a0law, in its entirety, should be abolished. On the other hand, many serious Muslim scholars and activists are themselves troubled by these Pakistani laws regarding\u00a0<em>zina<\/em>\u00a0and rape.
