Dean John G. Douglass is Dean and Professor of Law at the University of Richmond.  He has served as a faculty member of the Virginia State Bar’s course in Professionalism, as an instructor of a variety of programs for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, and a frequent lecturer at various legal education programs.  In addition to his work in academia, a certified mediator by the Supreme Court of Virginia, Dean Douglass serves as a mediator and arbitrator of commercial disputes.  He is the Chair of the Richmond City Charter Review commission, and serves on the Ethics Committee for Virginia Commonwealth University Hospitals. Dean Douglass’s principal academic publications focus on prosecution, the criminal trial process, and the Confrontation Clause.

Before he began his academic career in 1996, Dean Douglass practiced law for 15 years.  He served for eight years, as an Assistant United States Attorney in Baltimore Richmond was Chief of the Criminal Division of the United States from 1992 to 1996.  He also served on the staff of Independent Counsel Lawrence Walsh in the Iran- contra investigation.  His professional expertise includes commercial litigation, insurance defense, construction litigation and white-collar criminal defense.
