This Spring, KARAMAH conducted a “Lunch and Learn” continuing legal education program for the DC Volunteer Lawyers Project on Islamic Family Law. KARAMAH and DCVLP have been partners for many years providing direct legal services to indigent clients in the District of Columbia. In one landmark case, KARAMAH and DCVLP set precedent for the enforcement of Islamic marriage contracts in DC courts. Because of this case, DCVLP invited KARAMAH to conduct a workshop for other volunteer attorneys on family law in general with a particular emphasis on the Islamic marriage contract and other particular legal issues to the American Muslim community.
