Montgomery College-Germantown Film Screening Draws all Faiths, Prompts Questions, and Creates Bonds of Solidarity

When KARAMAH decided to showcase the acclaimed documentary “Muhammad: Legacy of a Prophet” as a public event, the organization hoped to raise awareness about misconceptions surrounding the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the wake of a lascivious Youtube video about the Prophet, sparking protests throughout the Muslim world. The number of people that entered Globe Hall at Montgomery College’s Germantown campus for this film screening on November 28th confirmed what many Muslim and interfaith advocates believe to be true: There are many Americans who reject common stereotypes about the religion of Islam and the Prophet and choose to seek knowledge independently.

Similar to past film screenings, the audience was able to participate in an open Q&A session immediately following the film. Panelists included a representative from KARAMAH, as well as representatives from academic and media fields. The session generated much interest and prompted further questions from audience members, resulting in extended discussions between attendees and panelists after the event concluded. Driven by this enthusiasm, KARAMAH continues to pursue its objectives of research and education in order to dispel misconceptions and join members of diverse communities together in solidarity and understanding.
