A Delegation of 19 Afghani Female Students Meet with KARAMAH Staff

On Wednesday, August 24th, KARAMAH ‘s Director of Research and Assistant Director of Programs met with a delegation of 19 Afghani women who are in the United States for a five-week women’s leadership program. The women are all college students in Afghanistan and represented a variety of fields, including education, computer science, English language and literature, medicine, and engineering. During the meeting,KARAMAH staff spoke about the organization’s history and impact, emphasizing the important role that Muslim women should play in leading their communities. Participants also shared their experiences in Afghanistan, the biggest challenges they feel are facing Afghani women, and their own personal challenges in leading their communities. Among the challenges mentioned by the women were the misconceptions that some in their communities hold about women’s education and travel. After hearing this, Ms. Abdullah provided a brief explanation of women’s rights to education and freedom of travel in Islam, and invited them to learn more about it through KARAMAH ‘s online educational materials and classes.
