Delegation of Jordanian Judges Visit KARAMAH for Q&A on Cases Involving the American Legal System

On June 21, 2011, a delegation of six Jordanian judges visited KARAMAH to enhance their knowledge and understanding of the American Legal System and American Civil Law. In an engaging Q&A session with KARAMAH ‘s Founder and Chair Dr. Azizah al-Hibri, members of the delegation inquired about issues such as the often misinterpreted concept of mahr in Islamic Law, as well as how to reconcile marriage laws when the bride and the groom are from different countries. There was also a lengthy discussion regarding divorce, during which members of the delegation learned how to obtain a divorce in America in accordance with the principles of both Shari’ah and American Legal Code. The judges were part of the Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program, and were all visiting America for the first time.
