A diverse body of students and DC professionals joined KARAMAH at George Washington University (GWU) Law School for a film screening and discussion of “Muhammad: Legacy of the Prophet” on the evening of October 17th. Moderated by KARAMAH’s Arabic Communications Associate Hind Essayegh, the film screening was followed by an informal panel and general discussion of the film and its message in the wake of violent protests which rocked the Muslim world in response to a lascivious film about the Prophet Muhammad.

One attendee raised questions about the concept of Prophethood in Islam, and another about Shari’ah law and its application within American Muslim communities. What became evident is that while education about Islam and the Prophet Muhammad is important for non-Muslims, it is perhaps more crucial in Muslim communities.
KARAMAH holds that in having a comprehensive understanding of Islam, Muslim individuals, and therefore Muslim communities will be equipped with the tools necessary to bring about leadership and positive change from within. KARAMAH looks
