Prof. Marie Failinger

Marie A. Failinger is Professor Emerita at Mitchell Hamline School of Law in St. Paul, MN, where she was interim dean during the law school’s merger with William Mitcan hell College of Law.   She was the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Law and Religion for over 25 years.  She  co-edited Feminism, Law and Religion (Ashgate Press) and books on Lutheran theology and law and poverty law cases.  In addition, she has published dozens of articles and book chapters on constitutional law, law and religion, gender and law, and human rights.

Failinger has been involved in many organizations and constitutional and human rights, including  sections of the American Association of Law Schools, the Council on American Islamic Relations-MN chapter, Church Innovations, Central Minnesota Legal Services, the Infinity Project, the National Equal Justice Library, Minnesota Women Lawyers, the American Indian Policy Center, and the Journal of Lutheran Ethics   She earned a B.A. and J.D. at Valparaiso University, and an LL.M. at Yale Law School.  She was awarded a Doctor of Laws honoris causa by Valparaiso University in 2014.
