David Dakake

David Dakake’s very informative essay “The Myth of a Militant Islam” is included in the anthology Islam, Fundamentalism, and the Betrayal of Tradition. He has contributed to Karamah by providing his piece, Some Misappropriations of Qur’anic Verses, arguing against fatwas made by Bin Laden against Christians and Jews.  He specializes in comparative religion and Islamic philosophy. He received his M.A. in Religious Studies from Temple University and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in their Department of Religion.  He has published articles on Islamic history and philosophy, taught courses at the university level on Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.  He has also delivered academic papers in the Middle East, Europe, and North America.  He was formerly a consultant for the Islamic Research Institute in Washington D.C. and is currently employed as a researcher in Islamic Studies at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
