The Original Justice League: An Obligation to Serve Humanity

Join KARAMAH as we explore Islam’s commitment to upholding justice though the model of the Prophet Muhammad who formed “the original justice league” during his life. He and several of his companions exemplified the Qur’anic model of speaking truth to power:

O ye who believe! stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even as against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, and whether it be (against) rich or poor: for Allah can best protect both. Follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest ye swerve, and if ye distort (justice) or decline to do justice, verily Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do. Qur’an 4:135

The panel will address our continued commitment to gender justice, racial justice, and religious freedom. Our speakers will also explore the need for collaboration, coalition building, and advocating for justice from several intersectional perspectives. We are proud to be hosting this event with our co-sponsors, the DC Human Rights Commission and the Library of Congress Asian Division.
