Law & Leadership Global Workshops

KARAMAH’s multi-day workshops are intensive one to five-day programs designed for Muslim women leaders and provide a unique combination of education in Islamic law, leadership, and conflict resolution.  Many workshops are designed to introduce participants, who are unable to attend our longer programs, to KARAMAH’s work on Islamic jurisprudence and to develop their leadership skills.  Other workshops provide groups of participants interested in similar topics with advanced courses on a specific topic, or combination of topics, related to Islamic jurisprudence, leadership, and conflict resolution.

All of KARAMAH’s instructors for Islamic jurisprudence are active jurists; they currently study, teach, or practice law and are able to provide participants with insight on the latest research and activities in the field.  Similarly, instructors for leadership and conflict resolution courses are active practitioners or scholars in those fields, providing education of the highest quality. Workshop instructors utilize two styles of educational methods – lectures and interactive sessions.  In lectures, participants are introduced to new concepts and ideas in order to broaden their academic understanding of various topics.  Through interactive sessions, participants are given opportunities to put the knowledge they have gained into practice through activities such as debates, advocacy simulations, team building, and leadership exercises.  These complementary educational methods thoroughly prepare participants to speak eloquently and effectively on Islamic Law and to advocate for their rights with a wealth of tools and skills.

KARAMAH conducts workshops in Europe, North America, the Middle East, and North Africa, and occasionally works with local partners to provide workshops for specific groups.  Additionally, workshops are flexible in length, and often take place over the weekend to accommodate professionals and others unable to attend on the weekdays.

Individuals interested in attending a KARAMAH workshop are encouraged to contact us for more information on upcoming workshops and programs.  Alternatively, those interested in inviting KARAMAH to host a workshop for their organization or community should contact us directly.
