KARAMAH Participates in the Department of Justice’s Hate Crimes Summit

It is undeniable that anti-Muslim sentiment is on the rise and is resulting in heightened bias related incidents and purported hate crimes. It is also clear that anti-Muslim sentiment is an intersectional issue, disproportionately impacting Muslim women and particularly Muslim women of color.

KARAMAH participated in the Department of Justice’s Hate Crimes Summit today calling for response and action by the Attorney General to report accurate data that acknowledges the gendered impact of bias related incidents and hate crimes. KARAMAH also called on the Department of Justice, particularly the FBI, to acknowledge the distrust of law enforcement that is rampant in targeted communities. The climate of fear and distrust has significantly impacted the reporting of biased related incidents and hate crimes, and this climate cannot go unacknowledged and unaddressed.
