KARAMAH: Muslim Women Lawyers for Human Rights extends our condolences to the Sikh community following the tragic shooting at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, WI. The event, which left seven people including the gunman dead, has been labeled an “act of domestic terrorism.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families and the greater Sikh community on this sad day,” said KARAMAH’s Executive Director Aisha Rahman on Monday. “As our country mourns this tragic loss of American life, we should also take time to reaffirm our commitment to welcoming people of all faiths and standing united against intolerance in all forms.”
Sikhism is a monotheistic faith founded over 500 years ago. Today, there are nearly 27 million followers worldwide. The Gurdwara (temple) in Oak Creek has more than 350 congregants and has been a cornerstone of this suburban community.
We at KARAMAH seek to promote religious freedom, civil and human rights within an interfaith context, and thus stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters of all faiths against intolerance, discrimination and violence.
