KARAMAH Hosts Delegation of Women Leaders from Pakistan

KARAMAH welcomed eight women leaders from various organizations in Pakistan focused on women’s issues and combating domestic violence. The goals of their October 11th visit included exploring different NGO’s in the U.S., such as KARAMAH, and how those organizations work to fight domestic violence using both the U.S. legal framework and Islamic sources. During the meeting, the group expressed particular interest in formulating strategies to promote more women’s leadership in Pakistan via leadership workshops, mentorship networks, and women’s educational advocacy. Group members also reiterated the need for better access to quality Islamic jurisprudence on domestic violence as a basis for wider cultural awareness and change. Engaging men, group members expressed, will be an important key to the success of DV efforts in Pakistan. As raising DV awareness globally is one of many pursuits KARAMAH engages in, the organization hopes to see more delegations of female leaders from abroad focusing on DV eradication in particular.
