KARAMAH meets with Pakistani Delegation

On Tuesday, April 20, 2010, KARAMAH hosted a visit with nine religious leaders, educators, and government officials from Pakistan. The group was visiting the United States on a trip sponsored by the State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program for a special educational project, “Religion in America: Religious Pluralism and Tolerance.” Participants included:

– Mr. Maulana Mirza Masood Baig: Deputy Administrator, Binoria International University, Karachi

– Mr. Mehar Moin-Ud-Din Chisti: Member, Pakistan Peoples’ Party

– Mr. Rahat Hussain: Deputy General Secretary, Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazlur Rehman (JUI-F), NWFP, Pakistan

– Dr. Saeed Khan: Lecturer, Islamic Law and Arabic Studies, Jamia-Ul-Uloom-il-Islamiyyah, Fiq-el-Islamia

– Dr. Ata-Ul-Mustafa Jamil Rathore: Director, H. K. Islamic Academy

– Mr. Salim Ur Rahman: Lecturer, Islamic Studies, Islamia College, Peshawar

– Mr. Syed Mudassir Nazar Shah: Custodian, Derbar E Alia, (Shrine of) Saroba Shareef, Distt Jhelum

– Mr. Ubaid Ur Rehman: Administrator, Jamia Qasim-Ul-Uloom, Multan

The participants discussed the difference between cultural and religious influences on the rights of women and their applications in Muslim societies.
