KARAMAH Provides Direct Legal Representation to Survivors of Domestic Violence

For over twenty years, KARAMAH has advocated for the civil and human rights of Muslims, particularly Muslim women. Lead by Muslim women lawyers and scholars, KARAMAH believes in fighting for justice and the rule of law. KARAMAH’s Family Law Division is directed by Aisha Rahman, Esq., Executive Director of KARAMAH, and supported by Julia Bizer, Esq. KARAMAH’s staff attorney. The Division has two main priorities: to educate the community on family law issues from an Islamic and civil perspective, and to provide direct legal representation to survivors of domestic violence. In March 2014, KARAMAH launched a direct legal services program for survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, and sexual assault. KARAMAH and its collaborative partner, Asian/Pacific Domestic Violence Resource Project, provide advice, safety planning, and social service resources to clients. Most importantly, KARAMAH provides representation to domestic violence survivors in court proceedings on issues of family law and related matters throughout the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia areas. For information about our family law services, or if you live in the D.C., Virginia, or Maryland areas and are in need of direct legal services, please contact our offices at 202-234-7302.
