As a means of continuing the promotion of global women’s leadership, KARAMAH hosted a delegation of women leaders from Afghanistan on the afternoon of September 27th. The purpose of these visits is to enhance education and leadership skills so that women feel supported and encouraged to speak about their rights, interests, and religion within their respective communities.
The Afghan delegation identified three target areas for discussion. The first was the availability of quality Islamic scholarship and education to better promote women’s rights in particular. The second was the issue of abuse against women in general, both inside the home and during travel to and from places of work. Thirdly, the delegation was particularly interested in education for Muslims about the rights inherent in Islamic law, to correct leaders or community members who mistake cultural and political ideas for Islamic principles. KARAMAH looks forward to discussions with more visiting delegations so as to better facilitate the growth of a global movement for women’s leadership and increased quality of Islamic education.
