On Friday July 10th, 2015, the tradition of KARAMAH’s Iftar dinners at Ibrahim El-Hibri Building continued as valued friends and supporters joined us for an evening of good food and good conversation. We are always delighted to bring together outstanding members of our community and gracious supporters to share the spirit of Ramadan, highlight our achievements and raise awareness regarding the challenges ahead of us.
This event has throughout the years taken the form of an intimate dinner that provides attendees with a chance to socialize and engage in interesting discussions while enjoying a delicious Iftar.
This event featured the welcoming address of KARAMAH’s Board of Directors Chair, Raheemah Abdulaleem. Ms. Abdulaleem welcomed the guests and thanked them for their continued support of KARAMAH. She also highlighted the outcomes of the Leaders and Scholars Summit which was convened earlier this year. See the Summit statement here. Ms. Abdulaleem also spoke about KARAMAH’s commitment to equity and justice and its belief in education as transformation.
On that note, Judge Mohamed Abdel Aziz Ibrahim, member of KARAMAH’s Board of Advisors and Islamic law Expert to the UN spoke about the importance of investing in women’s education in order to affect social change. “The mother is a school, if you prepare her, you prepare a nation,” he said. He also shared his experience standing up for justice even in the face of various threats and encouraged the guests to follow suit and continue to strive for justice despite the numerous obstacles society might present them with. We hope our guests walked out inspired to recommit to the battle against injustice.
The event was a success thanks to the enthusiastic and dedicated organizing team of KARAMAH staff and interns.
